Avoiding spam-bots by renaming comments.php

February 17th, 2008 . by polyGeek

I’m at my wits end trying to keep spam-bots off my blog. I’ve tried renaming key PHP files as these guys suggest to see if that helps.

By the way, all spammers are invited to go hiking with me in the Grand Canyon anytime. Just say the word and I’m there.

This seems to have worked. I haven’t received any comment spam in the past 4 days!

It’s been a few months now and still no comment-spam. Renaming these core files really works. And in the past month I’ve had only 4 comments get picked up by Akismet.
